A Fast and Easy Introduction to Craps Action
Craps is a game that has been around for thousands of years. Craps-like games have been found all the world from ancient Egypt, China, India, and Greece. Of course there are similarities and there are features that are distinct about these various dice games. But all of them will seem to have a general theme akin to craps.
So, here's how the action goes in craps. The flow of a game of craps is really very simple. All of you at the craps table take turns throwing the dice. But you can pass if you don't feel like tossing the dice anyway. The player who tosses the dice is called a shooter and the first toss is called the coming out roll.
Here are three possible outcomes in craps. First is that the shooter makes a total of seven or an eleven on that toss, which means the shooter wins. Second is that the shooter makes a total from four to six or eight to ten (these are known as the point), which means the shooter gets to redeem himself for another toss.
If on the second toss the shooter makes the point again then the shooter wins but if the shooter rolls a seven then the he loses. Third scenario is where the shooter rolls a total of two, three, or even a 12 (i.e. craps), which means that the shooter loses.
Given all these three scenarios you have the following betting options. If you choose to play the shooter then you must make a pass line bet. You win or lose given the three scenarios mentioned above. Other players can bet right on the shooter's side. Meaning they take whatever the shooter takes. But there are players known to bet wrong or they bet against the shooter, which some people think is bad luck in craps.
Here are a few tips to get you going and win some in case luck is on your side. Remember that every casino game has a built in house edge, which basically means if you stay on a game too long eventually you lose everything. One good way to avoid this from happening is to make a goal of winning exactly how much you bought in. Let's say your buy-in is about $100 you stay in the game until you win exactly another $100 or lose all the money your buy-in money and then take a break.
A general idea is get your expectations straightened out. You should decide exactly how much you'll spend for craps. Spend only that money you set aside, if you lose then it's ok, but if you win you can indeed celebrate. This makes all the craps action really fun and exciting.
